The story of Fayoum pottery is one of creativity, revival and community. 
In the 1980s, Swiss-born potter Evelyne Porret and her husband founded the Fayoum Pottery School & Workshop, reintroducing ancient enamelling techniques that had largely disappeared since the 13th century. 
Their vision transformed the village of Tunis into a thriving centre of ceramic artistry, where today many small, independent workshops continue to create beautifully distinctive pottery by hand.
Every Fayoum pottery piece reflects the personality and imagination of its maker. Decorated with playful motifs inspired by the flora and fauna of the oasis, the designs are wonderfully expressive, featuring birds, fish, flowers and organic patterns in rich yet harmonious colours.
