This magnificent Italian commode, made in Venice in the late 18th century has elegant proportions and an authentic patina in soft, faded blue paint. It is a substantial and sculptural piece, steeped in classical refinement. With its beautifully serpentine front, softly curving cabriole legs, and wide, sweeping top, it embodies the restrained elegance of Venetian design during the late Baroque and early Neoclassical periods.
With two generously deep drawers, each adorned with original iron drop handles with decorative backplates, the commode is not only visually striking but supremely practical. Both drawers feature working locks and come complete with a key, adding to the sense of craftsmanship and completeness rarely found in pieces of this age.
The commode has been finished in a later muted blue paint, now gently worn and textured with age to reveal hints of the original wood beneath. The surface carries a soft, powdery patina that seems to glow in the light which lends it an ethereal quality that only enhances its antique charm.
At 155 cm wide x 60 cm deep x 90 cm high, this is a large and impressive statement piece which is ideal as a focal point in a hallway or under a mirror in a sitting room.
