A wonderfully characterful Italian painted secrétaire dating from around 1880, combining a writing desk with generous cupboard storage in an elegant and highly practical piece of furniture.
The softly aged pale painted exterior is deliberately understated, but opening the secrétaire reveals a wonderful surprise: a richly contrasting coral-red painted interior. The hinged fall front lowers to form a generous writing surface, revealing shaped internal compartments and shelves designed for papers and writing essentials.
Above, a pair of panelled cupboard doors opens to further shelved storage, while two additional cupboards below the writing surface provide useful concealed space. The combination of desk and storage makes this an exceptionally versatile piece for a study, sitting room, bedroom or hallway.
The beautifully worn painted surfaces, simple panelled doors and unexpected colour within give this secrétaire a relaxed Italian character that feels equally at home in a traditional or contemporary interior.

Authenticity
Every antique piece at Tallulah Fox has lived a unique life before finding its way to us. Gentle wear, historic repairs, natural patina and the character that comes with age are not imperfections but part of each piece's story, making every item entirely individual. We believe these signs of age are what give antique furniture its warmth, authenticity and enduring appeal.
Why We Love This Piece
We love the contrast between the quiet, softly aged exterior and the wonderful coral-red interior revealed when the doors and writing surface are opened. It's full of character but also exceptionally practical, combining a proper writing surface with an impressive amount of storage in one distinctive piece of Italian furniture.
