A smaller 19th-century Spanish Fajalauza lebrillo bowl, hand-painted in cobalt blue with a simple stylised foliate motif to the centre and loose blue brushwork around the rim.
Originating from Granada in southern Spain, Fajalauza pottery is recognised for its distinctive hand-painted decoration and rustic glazed earthenware. Lebrillos were traditionally made as practical household vessels and are now collected as decorative examples of historic Spanish pottery.
The restrained cobalt decoration, irregular hand-thrown form and variations in the glaze reflect the traditional methods used to produce these pieces. The reverse reveals the coarse reddish-buff earthenware body, irregular foot ring and natural glaze variations associated with handmade pottery.

Why We Love It
The simple cobalt foliate decoration gives this smaller lebrillo a distinctive graphic quality. Its irregular form, softly aged glaze and visible earthenware construction retain the character associated with traditional Fajalauza pottery.
Styling Tip
Display upright on a shelf, dresser or console using a suitable plate stand, or hang as part of a collection of antique Spanish ceramics. Its smaller proportions make it particularly suitable for grouping with larger lebrillos and other blue and white pottery.
