Each placemat is individually handmade by skilled artisans in Usiacurí, a town on Colombia’s Caribbean coast renowned for its traditional Iraca palm weaving. The intricate designs combine natural materials with bold colour and beautiful pattern, transforming an everyday table setting into something rather special.
The making process begins with a carefully shaped wire framework. Natural Iraca palm fibres are then intricately woven by hand around the frame to create the beautiful patterns and distinctive shapes of each design.
Available in a selection of different designs and colours, these placemats work beautifully individually or can be mixed together for a more relaxed and eclectic table.
As each placemat is completely handmade using natural palm fibres, variations in colour, weave, dimensions and finish are to be expected. These individual characteristics are part of the beauty of the piece and make every placemat unique.

Creating these intricate pieces requires considerable skill and patience. The palm fibres are carefully woven over the shaped framework to create the detailed patterns that distinguish each design.
The result is much more than a functional placemat, each one is a beautiful example of Colombian craftsmanship for the table.
